Preventive Mole Examinations

When detected early, melanoma can be successfully treated and surgically removed. The earlier a melanoma is detected, the better the chances for therapy and the less serious the surgical intervention for its removal.

Melanoma develops around existing moles or on seemingly normal skin. These pigmented skin lesions can be found on any individual on all parts of the body. Everybody therefore runs the risk of being affected by malignant changes of these skin areas, i.e. to develop a malignant melanoma.

What is Digital Dermoscopy?

The MoleMax system was the first digital dermoscopy system that was developed in Austria in 1997. This system enables your doctor to examine the skin beyond its surf ace layers and detect changes to skin not visible to the human eye.

This makes diagnosis much easier for your doctor and enhances the chances of detecting a malignant melanoma early.

This quick and non-invasive examination is not only painless but also allows patients to observe examinations on the screen while the doctor is taking the images No oil is required so a clean and comfortable examination is performed.

The software incorporates 2 of the most widely used scoring methods to assist the doctor with diagnosis of your lesions.

Why we use MoleMax/ DermDOC technology?

  • No use of immersion fluids necessary, non-invasive examination method
  • Examinations can be observed on the screen by the patient
  • Exact diagnosis using microscopy – no biopsy required
  • Early diagnosis of Melanoma
  • Unbiased and precise monitoring of higher-risk moles
  • Clearer distinction between benign and malignant pigmented lesions
  • Easy and long-term follow up examinations of pigmented lesions.

With over 2,000 systems worldwide, Whitfords Medical is using the worlds most trusted skin cancer detection equipment.

Melanoma

Confirmed diagnosis of Melanoma, the most serious form of the skin cancer types is currently increasing at a rate faster than any other cancer.

Melanoma can occur anywhere on the skin, even on the soles of the feet. It does spread quickly, and if it is not treated, it may spread to the dermis layer of the skin where the cancer cells can be carried to other parts of the body.

Causes of Melanoma

Sunshine and light are good for us and we need them to produce vitamin D. However, too much sun can be dangerous! Exposure to UV radiation from the sun or other sources such as tanning machines are the main causes of melanoma.

Continuous over exposure to UV radiation permanently damages the skin and this damage continues to worsen over time.

Early Detection is Critical

Skin Cancer, if detected at an early stage, can be successfully treated and cured as long as these malignant changes of the skin are recognized early.

Australia has the highest rate of skin cancer in the world. One in two Australians will develop some form of skin cancer in their lifetime. Each year over 3,000 people in NSW are diagnosed with Melanoma.

How can I be certain?

A melanoma changes its appearance quickly with such changes only being detected through comparison. A major technological advancement in melanoma detection, the MoleMax/DermDOC system, available now at this clinic will help alleviate your concerns.

During the first check-up, dermoscopic images of suspicious pigment spots can be both magnified up to 100 times and stored in the MoleMax/DermDOC system.

At successive check-ups current images are compared to the previously stored one.
